Forgotten: Part 3

If you have not read this story before, please scroll down the screen until you reach "Forgotten: Prologue". If you start from there the rest of this story will make sense.

Part 3
I backed up quickly. I had seen these snakes before, during a battle, when one attacked CT-7487939, or "Droidhack." Let's just say that, well, he would have had some pretty interesting green-and-purple tattoos, if he was still breathing after he got them.  I ran back into the abandoned city-building, with the snake right behind me. I moved through a doorway in the back left-hand side of the room. I instantly realized I had made a mistake. The natives apparently dug underground to increase the amount of living space in each city. I was now in a room with eight possible exits, nine if you count the door I had just gone through. Any of those doorways could yield the snake behind it. Another problem: It was very dark in the building. The snake had night vision and I did not. I had lights on my helmet, but if I turned them on I would be spotted immediately. I suddenly heard a hissing, slithering sound coming from the left. My response was to quickly run through the doorway on the right. Now I was heading downhill. I heard the hissing sound behind me again. Now I had three choices: Left, right or forward. I chose the left this time. As I ran, I heard the snake right behind me. I suddenly realized I was moving upwards. I came into another room and ran directly forward. I came into another room and turned right. Suddenly I was outside. I stopped for a moment, blinking in the sudden light. That moment was all the snake needed. It whipped its tail around, knocking me onto my back, making my helmet fly off and forcing me to drop my blaster. I started to back up, while the snake lashed its claws at me. I dodged first one, then another vicious attack until my hand bumped against something, a small stone. I grabbed it and threw it as hard as I could at the snake. The stone hit it in the eye. It bellowed in pain and slithered backwards, giving me enough time to crawl over and grab my blaster. I rolled over onto my back again and fired shot after shot at it. One shot hit it in the face, one hit its torso, and one hit it in the tail, knocking it onto its belly. I stood up and fired three more shots into its head, then ran off as fast as I could. Eventually I stopped, sat down, and ate the rations hungrily. Suddenly I heard the sound of a blaster being cocked behind my head. "Surrender, clone," a battle droid said.
Thanks for reading.
Til next time, Greg Olego.
