Hi everybody this is Greg Olego. I got a new Lego set yesterday and here it is. This set is called Riddles for the Ring. It has 105 pieces and it costs $9.99 in the US.
It comes in a small, "finger-open" box and contains two minifigures . Here is the back.
And here it is! It includes Bilbo Baggins, Gollum, Bilbo's sword Sting, the One Ring, a fish, Gollum's boat, and a rock. It also comes with a spare Sting, Ring and some spare bones.
Here is Bilbo. He has his journey/quest torso, his trusty sword Sting, and a weary-looking face.
Here is Bilbo with the other, scared side of his head piece showing. He also has orange hair in the new "Hobbit" mold.
He also has back printing and short, tan legs.
For scale, here is me next to him.
This is Gollum, who has an evil, suspicious face. His arms are interesting, for he seems like he has robot hands, but in fact they are like minifigure hands instead.
Here is Gollum from the back. He has hair printing on his head. His head, body and legs are all one piece, so only his arms move.
For scale, here is me next to him.
Here is Gollum's boat. it is a simple build, only 12 pieces, but it has some interesting bone elements.
For scale, here is me next to it.
Here is the rock. It is the main part of the set, but it only took me about 20 minutes to build. It has some interesting functions. It is also good for supplementing a cave MOC.
You can put Gollum onto a flat tile at the top of the rock. (One little thing: I find the little slanted rock works to hold Gollum better if you put it next to where the instructions tell you to put it.)
You can turn the rocks on the front to reveal a rock thingy.
The rock thingy has a lever attached to it. When you turn the lever the rock will flip onto its side and reveal the ring.
For scale, here is me next to it.
I tried to have an interview with Gollum. Here is how it turned out:
Me: So, Gollum, what do you like most of all?
Gollum: My Precious.
Me: OK, what do you like to eat?
Gollum: My Precious.
Me: So, do you play any sports?
Gollum: My Precious.
Me: Do you realize that's all you've said during the whole interview?
Gollum: My Precious.
Me: Ugh, I'm going to go interview someone else.
Gollum: My Precious.
Me: Bilbo! Do you want to be interviewed?
Bilbo: AHH! What? Sure, OK.
Me: What have you been doing lately?
Bilbo: I've been on an Epic Quest.
Me: What is it?
Bilbo: I'm going to defeat a dragon with a bunch of dwarves.
Me: Sounds fun!
Bilbo: Fun? I'm not so sure. It's been very hard so far.
Me: Nice talking to you, Bilbo.
Bilbo: Indeed.
All in all, I give this set 9.7 out of ten. It could have maybe come with a goblin, but it's great as it is.
See you around, this is Greg Olego, signing off.
P. S. To all you Gollum fans out there, I did not in any way intend to downplay him.
Wow dude, I totally love building brick too! Loved your interview with Bilbo and Gollum, he had so much to say!

ReplyDeleteHello Mr. Olego,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog very creative, interesting, and insightful, but as a member of PETL (People for the Ethical Treatment of Lego's) could you tell me if any Lego's were harmed in the making of this blog?

ReplyDeleteNo Stu, here at C.A.B. (Crazy About Building) we treat all of our Legos ethically. However, my torso piece hurts from laughing so hard.
